I designed two DIY pivot wheel Christmas cards for my creative crew in our latest class. They very much liked these interactive cards. They are a bit fussy to make, but worth it in the end! (If you want the no-fuss version and you have a die cutting machine, you can buy the Reveal Wheel set from Lawn Fawn.)
The first one is a little house on a hill. This is a colour changing style pivot wheel. The mix of colours behind the snowflakes changes as you turn the wheel. We used the ink smooshing technique to colour our wheels using my Nuvo Embellishment Mousses.
Because of the smooshing technique, everyone's snowflakes turned out a little different! I coloured my house with my Copic markers, but my creative crew used a variety of mediums and coloured however they wanted. So, all the cards are just a little different! Here's how the class ones turned out, with my sample in for reference.
The second card was a real hit! We made Santa Claus fly across the snowy night sky!
First, all you see is a snowy sky. This snow was made with my homemade stencil that we sponged white pigment ink through. The stencil is just a piece of acetate with holes punched in it in two sizes (using my We R Memory Keepers Cropadile Big Bite).
As you turn the wheel, Santa appears!
On mine, Santa pops out the thumb notch a wee bit, where you turn the wheel. All I had to do to fix it was place a tree over that spot. Works like a charm! I think everyone quite enjoyed this holiday card kick-off class. I think the next class will need to be a down to business, regular holiday card making class so we'll have a good start to the stash by the end of the year of classes. We'll see.
Have you tried a pivot wheel card before? What's your favourite kind of reveal?
